My Banned Book Memories

A month (maybe 6 weeks) before I was scheduled to leave for college, a package arrived for me in the mail. It was from my university and contained a paperback copy of Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury.

I was to read the book and write a 5 page report on it to be turned in on my first day of class.

The college I hadn’t even attended sent me a perpetually banned book, instructed me to read it and write a paper on it BEFORE I’d ever actually attended a class there. That’s pretty balls-y. And definitely awesome.

It’s Banned Books Week. Be grateful for all the opportunities you have to expose yourself to literature someone else doesn’t want you to read.
